About Giedre Asmonaite

My PhD project primirily investigates the environmental problem of microplastic pollution problem in aquatic environment by studying the potential toxicity on fish models. It is a part research project "A sea of plastic – are plastic particles toxic to fish?" conducted by Dr. Bethanie Carney Almroth. My research is aimed at elucidating toxicity mechanisms of microplastics and associated chemicals and their mixtures using integrative biomarker approach and various behavior assessment techniques. The special emphasis of my PhD project is laid on mixture toxicity assessment. My research interests relate to developmental and behavioural toxicology and exploitation of automatic fish larvae tracking in toxicity screening of various environmental pollutants.

Also I am involved in a project "NICE-Novel instruments for effect-based assessment of chemical pollution in coastal ecosystems" with Dr. Joachim Sturve and Prof. Thomas Backhaus (http://nice.gu.se/).

I am a member of Fish ecotoxicology research group in Department of Biological and Environment Sciences and my supervisors are Dr. Bethanie Carney Almroth and Dr. Joachim Sturve.
