Research in biology and environmental sciences

Main research areasAt the department, thera are about 100 scientists and PhD-students, working with questions that in one way or the other relate to plants and animals, and the environments in wich they live. It spans from what happens within a single cell and how individuals from different species are built and function, to relationship between species and how popluations interact with each other and their environment.

The research also includes questions about how factors in the suroundings and not least changes in the environment affect living organisms - here we study anything from chemical and physical factors, nutrients or population density to climat change and environmental pollutions.

We study plants and animals both in the lab and in their natural habitats - on land, in the air or in the water - in Sweden and around the globe, from Arctic to Antarctic via the tropics.

Main research areas

We have chosen to desrcibe our research from four main areas  – Evolutionary ecology & conservation biology, Systematics & biodiversitey, Physiology & cell biology and Environmental sciences. But many questions and projects cover more that one area.
