Om Hongxing He

Forskning

My main research interest is biogeochemical cycle in terrestrial ecosystem and its interactions between atmosphere and aquatic ecosystem. I am specialized in developing and applying process-oriented models to study the carbon and nitrogen interactions within soil-plant-atmosphere system. Most of my work focus on greenhouse gas exchange and nutrient leaching, their regulating mechanisms, and responses to global change and human management. Especially, I focus on the plant-ectomycorrhizal interactions for nutrients and carbon exchange, and have recently developed CoupModel to explicitly simulate the ectomycorrhizal processes. Currently, I am working with Annemieke Gärdenäs on including the phosphorus cycle into the CoupModel description in order to improve understanding of nitrogen and phosphorous interactions for losses of nutrients from terrestrial ecosystems. I am also interested in upscaling ecosystem model into catchment or regional scale that can improve our current predictions of the ecosystem response to climate, management and global change.
Previously I worked as a post-doc in a Formas project “drained peat soils, development of specific greenhouse gas emission factors-aimed for mitigation and policy”. In 2016, I defended my PhD thesis named “Land use GHG emissions and mitigation options, simulated by CoupModel”. The main conclusion is drained organic soils are hotspots for greenhouse gas emissions and rewetting can be a potential mitigation option.
